PP 70 October 24, 1856 Colfax to Unknown / Campaign plans 23.119 Page One At top of the page centered - Republican State Central Committee Rooms. Indianapolis, Oct 24 1856 Mr. ???; We have been holding conference here every night & have promises to gains in all the Central & Northern Cos. The colonization against us has been fully 20,000, all of which will be needed at home in their respective States or Pres. Election. If we only pull the same vote for Fremont that we did for Morton & keep out the illegal double voting we shall have the State. I speak here to night. & (word "at" crossed out) next week at ???, Sullivan, Vincennes, & Princeton, returning home by Saturday morning. Would you believe that ??? Wright ??? Willard have the ??? to declare that is I had not colonized with St. Joe & LaPorte, & thus swelled the vote there, I would have been beaten. This equals the imprudence of His Satanic Majesty, in the face two of the three are open & shameless colonization there. Our advices from Pa. are encouraging. In great haste Yours truly Schuyler Transcribed by Linda C. Deaton 11/2022 |
