Description |
Sewing machine(A) with walnut case (B) and cast iron base. The machine itself is decorated with mother-of-pearl inlays and gold enamel ornamentation, as well as "NELLIE COLFAX, SOUTH BEND, INDIANA" circling a mother-of-pearl circle on the work surface. The metal plate surrounding the bobbin hatch is also engraved with "Nellie Colfax, South Bend" in ornate font. Cast-iron base features a foot-powered treadle and flywheel. Part of the unfolding wooden cover (B) for the machine has become detached from the rest of the machine and is secured in place by a tightly-tied orange ribbon. |
