Provenance |
"We have a doorway curtain in heavy striped figured cotton (and two squares) that were used in the Schuyler Colfax home by him. The doorway one is shredded along one edge, but otherwise not threadbare. I can remember "Brother Schuyler's curtain" hanging in a single door opening in my grandmother's home...my own mother sewed the two squares together & used both in a double doorway after grandma gave them to her...they have been laundered many times, but the colors are in good shape." Mrs. Alice Oetting is the great niece of Schuyler Colfax, her grandmother, Mary Mathews Cowles, was the youngest of Colfax's three half-sisters. |
